Amsterdam to be special guests of legends

Anna

The full seven-piece Amsterdam band will be very special guests of the legendary Irish/Cockney rebel rousers the Pogues this coming Wednesday 15 July.

The show will be at the Liverpool Echo Arena and promises to be a hell of a night with two of the best live bands currently performing on the same bill.

Ian commented ‘Shane has written some music that will resonate til the last day of all time, it’ll be an honour to be in the same building. When we supported them in Pele years ago he wasn’t quite, er, there.’

Pele reunion show t-shirts

Pele reunion show t-shirts

The classic Pele t-shirt which no self respecting fan was seen without in the 1990s will return for the up-and-coming re-union shows. This special one off design from Nick at Lemondrop Creative will mark the two gigs most people thought they’d never see again.

If you are coming to the shows and want to reserve these ace new t-shirts just drop us a line to amsterdamhq@hotmail.co.uk and we’ll reserve one for you. Simply go to the merchandising stall at either of the two gigs and give in your name. The t-shirts cost just £16.

There will only be a very limited run of these shirts so if you definitely want one then let us know.

Tickets are still on sale for both shows which early rehearsals suggest will be the gigs of the year.

Johnny Barlow solo record

Johnny Barlow

Amsterdam’s lead guitarist is to start work on his first solo album this coming August in a North London studio.

Johnny who contributed the lovely Rosie to last year’s Arm in arm Amsterdam album has said that no one is more surprised than he is that he found his muse after all this time!

Band producer Tony Kiley who will be assisting Johnny in the sessions has been singing the praises of the tunes submitted so far and we’ll keep you posted on his progress.

Look out this week for exciting news of Amsterdam’s next move as well.

The rumours are true!

The rumours are true

Ian’s successful band from the nineties, Pele, will be reuniting for two shows ONLY. All five original members will play together for the first time in 16 years this summer to recreate those glorious shows between 1991-1995.

Pele formed in Liverpool in 1989 and their incendiary live show stormed the city and earned them a deal with Polydor in 1991. All four singles from the debut album Fireworks were playlisted on Radio 1 followed by two more albums, a legendary t-shirt, hits in the UK, Germany, Portugal, Holland and a number 1 in South Africa. Most of all though Pele will be remembered for those great live performances which earned them a legion of fans around the country.

All five original members are getting together one more time to re-live those sweaty nights at the Royal Court, Irish Centre, Adelphi Ballroom and Mountford Hall.

The Liverpool show is part of the Summer Pops season and will take place on Saturday 25th July. Tickets are on sale now from o2academyliverpool.co.uk.

The London show will be a week later at the Water Rats theatre in Kings Cross on Saturday 1 August. Tickets are available from ticketweb.co.uk.

Asked why after all these years he decided to get the band back together, Ian commented. ‘Me Mum made me, she loved Pele so we’ll have two cracking summer nights then I’ll carry on with making Amsterdam the world’s best band’.
