Ian to appear on BBC Radio Merseyside

Ian to appear on BBC Radio Merseyside

Ian will be appearing on BBC Radio Merseyside’s Billy Butler show this Tuesday at 2.30pm. Billy is easily Liverpool’s most famous and long-lasting DJ. He is also a huge Amsterdam fan.

Ian will be playing a couple of acoustic tunes and chatting to Billy about the forthcoming Mathew Street festival in August as well as discussing Ian’s poetry which can be read at www.myspace.com/northernson.

Those outside of Merseyside can listen in live at www.bbc.co.uk/england/radiomerseyside/.

Don’t forget that there will be an Amsterdam acoustic performance this coming Thursday at Bar One in Hoylake – full details are in the live section of the site.

Other acts will include Fultons point, Al Baker and Al Parry. Ian will be on at about 10pm.

We can also now happily confirm that Amsterdam have parted company with Beat Crazy records. The band will now sit down and plan the next move with their management team at Cruisin music who also represent The Stranglers and Tina Cousins.

The first chapter of a post-Beat Crazy world is to be the live album which will include new songs, tunes from The Journey as well as older Amsterdam classics.

Ian and Amsterdam are also hard at work writing the follow up to The Journey and were very happy with the way the new songs went last Saturday night. The boys hope to commence recording on a new album later in the year with Ian commenting “My pen is on fire at the moment, all the receptors are up”.

Zanzibar roasted!

The Zanzibar was roasted on Saturday

An unbelievably hot Zanzibar on the hottest day of the year saw Amsterdam dust off the cobwebs with a lengthy set to an excitable audience on Saturday night.

The boys played three songs never before performed as well as plenty of old faves and a couple of cover versions. Paulie kicked off proceedings by singing the intro and several songs included a mass singalong. Famous guitar tech Mikey joined the band for the encores with his special brand of dancing/singing. A great night was had by all.

The set list was:

Intro
The Journey
Cant trust the people
Fair blows the wind for France
Nostalgia
Class war in the bedroom
Joe’s kiss
Untitled new song
Love phenomenon
Takin’ on the world
Does this train stop on Merseyside?
Raid the palace
Glorious day
Do anything you wanna do
You’re a phoney

Lifestyle
Town called malice
Feels like growing up

The boys will be announcing some more summer shows in the next few days.

Amsterdam set to return to the stage

Amsterdam set to return to the stage

The boys are all revved up and ready to spring into action this Saturday night after a four-month lay off from any live action. Amsterdam are chomping at the bit to get out there and do what they do best after such a long wait.

The big night in Liverpool begins with doors at 7:30pm followed by the new band formed by Mikey and Phil from The Garys at 8:15pm, The Missin’ Beats.

Radio Merseyside favourites The Circle will follow at 9:00pm and Amsterdam will be onstage at 9:45pm.

You can still buy tickets from Ticketweb or chance paying on the door on the night.

Hopefully those England fans amongst you will be celebrating to on the night.

If you’re coming in from out of town don’t forget to do the ‘Amsterdam tour’ of Mathew Street, McKenzies tomb and The Marlboro Arms (next to the Zanzibar).

Long awaited news on the record company front will be announced this week, sorry for keeping everyone in the dark but we hope to finally resolve the situation between Beat Crazy and ourselves amicably.
