Amsterdam to tour with The Wonder Stuff

Amsterdam to tour with The Wonder Stuff

The boys have been especially asked by Miles Hunt from The Wonder Stuff to accompany the 90s indie heroes on a twelve-date tour of the UK.

The Wonder Stuff will be out promoting there new album and are huge Amsterdam fans so it should be a very exciting jaunt around the country!

Because the tour doesn’t call in to Liverpool, Amsterdam will be doing their own headlining show at the Carling Academy on Saturday 11 February.

Tickets for the tour are already available, for details visit the live area of the site. You can also read Ian’s gig diaries for all 41 live dates the band have completed this year.

Look out for the annual Amsterdam end-of-year interview with Al O’Hare coming this week!

The boys hit the Isle of Man on Thursday for two highly-anticipated shows before returning to Liverpool on Saturday for a huge knees-up as special guests of Ian McNabb at his big Christmas show at the Carling Academy.

Amsterdam will hit the stage at 8:30pm promptly so anyone wishing to catch the lads should get in the venue early. Tickets are still available from TicketWeb and you will be able to pay on the night.

Amsterdam nominated in awards ceremony

Amsterdam nominated in awards ceremony

Amsterdam entered the glittery world of the award ceremony on Friday night when the boys were nominated for Best Music award at the annual Scouseology awards at the salubrious Crown Plaza hotel in Liverpool.

The gang lost out to China Crisis in the end – who apologised profusely to Ian later and said how much they loved the album!

Every scouser from Ken Dodd to Craig Charles to Ricky Tomlinson to Janice Long (who mentioned Amsterdam during her speech) was there for this major event in Merseyside life. Apparently Mr Prowse in a suit was a sight to behold.

The boys will also finish off this year with a short tour in December. The first Isle of Man show in Douglas is almost sold out for any of you who are going over to see the band.

Tickets for the other gigs which include the big Amsterdam Christmas party in central London at the famous Borderline club are on sale now.

Also look out for the limited edition very special Joe’s Kiss t-shirts which will be made available soon!

Thank you to everyone

Takin' on the World entered the indie chart at number 12

Amsterdam would like to say a big thank you to everyone who bought and downloaded Takin’ on the World, which entered the main chart at number 90 and the indie chart at number 12 on Sunday.

Said Ian: “Thanks to everyone who bought our latest single, I’m glad the b-sides seemed to be appreciated by everyone, and thanks to everyone for their genuine concern that this wasn’t the single that ‘broke’ the band.

“It’s a bizarre irony but it’s true, our single that didn’t crack the top 75 was more succesful for us than the one that got into the top 40.

“The doors it’s opened and the influential friends it has made us will be invaluable in the next stage. So yeah we haven’t had the big hit we all hoped for but it started to shift albums for us and raised our profile a hell of a lot. This single has actually added to the momentum not taken anything away, so let’s not anyone be downhearted…the truth is it’s been a fucking amazing year for Amsterdam.”

Meanwhile, at an acoustic gig in London last night, The Wonder Stuff’s Miles Hunt played a special version of Does This Train Stop on Merseyside?, which was christened Does This Train Stop in Birmingham? and re-written to describe the midlands city.

The song referenced several Birmingham landmarks, bits of folklore and the pub bombings of 1974. Miles promised that the Stuffies would record it as a b-side for one of the singles they will release next year.
